Both projects worked as site specific. The work Monumento Sonoro was originally performed in 2021 in the context of the Tsonami Sound Art Festival, in Valparaíso and, for its part, Quién o Qué was executed at the residence of Casa Belgrado, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The projects were an attempt to resignify the notion of monument through the development of a collaborative work, in which inhabitants of the surrounding community were invited to participate by answering the following question: What or whom would they make a monument for and why? The monuments contained the audio and narratives expressed by the participants, which were reproduced through a speaker installed inside the sound sculpture.
The monuments then inserted in the public space functioned as projections of the official historical memory. The monuments in Latin America not only preserve the memory and the historical narrative, but also indicate what is not present in the city, what is invisibilized and what is silenced. In this context, collective and individual memories began to question these materialities by questioning them, intervening and mutilating them, as they symbolically represented patriarchy, colonization, racism and classism.
